Ubuntu/ Amahi-DLNA Install Issue

Postby wil313 » Tue Jul 10, 2012 7:11 pm

I'm on Ubuntu 12.04. I am having an issue install Amahi-DLNA on my HDA. I have purchased the Amahi-DLNA and went to install the addon on the dashboard. It says it installed the dependencies however, it just keeps saying "Preparing to Install." I am not sure how to pull an error log or anything. Thanks in advanced for your help.

This is a known issue right now. They are hoping to have a fix for it soon.

There are some thread about this under the ubuntu forum.

That's why DLNA is in BETA for Ubuntu. Be aware that apps which are in BETA status often have issues and may not work.

Recommend you only try apps that are LIVE for Ubuntu. Once we get BETA apps stable, they will be move LIVE.

Thank you for such a quick reply. However, what is a good alternative until a fix is found? And I appologize about this thread, I promise I looked around (and googled) about this problem before I posted...

Not sure there is a good alternative for Amahi. You can check the media apps in Amahi app store. Other than that, you could manually set up minidlna for Ubuntu. I am sure there is a tutorial out there somewhere on the internet that will guide you.

You can just install it manually. I may do it again, as i would like to watch my shows and movies.

These are the steps i did before for ubuntu 11. Im guessing it will work for v12

sudo apt-get install minidlna

sudo /etc/init.d/minidlna stop

sudo nano /etc/minidlna.conf

media_dir=A,/data/files/media/music <---- path to audio files
media_dir=V,/data/files/media/video <---- path to video files
media_dir=P,/data/files/media/pictures <---- path to pictures files

sudo /etc/init.d/minidlna start

Should work. Might be a good idea to add that to the wiki. We have a link for Ubuntu tutorials :) Would you mind if you have time?
