DLNA Server - Please Assist

Postby wyldeone » Sun Dec 11, 2011 4:18 pm

Howdy Folks

Is there anyone out there who can give assistance/advise on DLNA Server selection/install.

I'm a complete NOOB to the Linux OS, i've install Fedora 14 + Amahi on my home server and works like a charm.

I'm looking to install a DLNA server to steam video to my new LG TV. Currently im looking at MediaTomb, Amahi DLNA & MiniDLHA.

My problem is currently i don't understand the whole way Linux works with compiling, i'm use to windows double click the .exe and away you go.
I've downloaded the the source codes from from MediaTomb & minidlha and some of the libraries required (hopefully the right ones) but the documentation on installing/compiling them simply makes no sense to me.

So i have a few question.

1. MediaTomb & Amahi DLNA from the Amahi app page, are these already compiled and ready to use? I don't mind paying for these but again the info/documentation is a little on the poor side.

2. Does anyone know of a good installation guide for NOOBS for MediaTomb source code (from the MediaTomb website) or for the minidlha source, including how to install the necessary libraries?

3. If there is no installation guide is there anyone who can assist in the installation of either MediaTomb or minidlha?

Any info/assistance or help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you in advance :)

DLNA and Media Tomb basically work out of the box for the Amahi one-click install. There is no compiling needed.

As an installation guide for manual installing, you might try google.com for one. We don't have one here that I am aware of. The web sites for the software might also give guidance on how to install.

Most are fairly straight forward, but may be challenging for a Linux newbie to install. If you want to keep it simple, try the Amahi apps. I use DLNA and works great streaming to my Blue Ray player.

Hi BigFoot,
I just checked for DLNA and MediaTomb and they are not avaliable for one-click install on my dashboard.. Any reasons? (I did decide to install fedora 14 full install)
Thanks!

They are pay apps. Log into amahi.org and you can purchase them there.
