Updating Squeezebox

Postby jaybea » Sat Aug 13, 2011 7:10 am

I am currently running Squeezebox Server on Fedora 14. I am running version 7.5.3 and would like to upgrade to 7.6.0. I assume that I need to uninstall the current version via the Installed Apps page and then reinstall it again, but I am a bit concerned that the 7.6.0 version will not appear on the Apps list leaving me without anything. I am a Pro user so I have access to Beta apps.

Is there a better way of upgrading?

You could do that. I try to keep that app up to date, but do not have an automated way of knowing when it changes. There are also some new dependencies with the later version that the app cannot install. They have to be run manually until I can figure out a way to do them on install.

You could also download the RPM yourself from the source and then do as root user:

Code: Select all

yum -y localinstall filename --nogpgcheck
That should install it to the latest version.

Thanks for the reply. It looks like you have updated Squeezebox Server to 7.6.0 as that is the version now reported in the aStore. The aStore version was 7.5.3 when I installed it.

I was not sure whether installing a newer version of an application (such as Squeezbox Server) using yum would break the packaging for the HDA.

Yes I updated it recently. As for doing it via the yum method, it will not break the app. Only the RPM and CPAN dependency are installed, then squeezebox server started.

If you want to uninstall and reinstall, that would be greatly appreciated as we can test the new install. There is one manual step required. There is a link in special instructions to the wiki page with the command. Once you complete that step and start the it, all will work.

If you would rather go the other way, I undestand.

I will see if I have time to uninstall and reinstall tonight. If not, it will be a couple of weeks, but I will report back.
