does amahi reconfigure itself?
does amahi reconfigure itself?
I only ask because if you add a slave or master zone etc into bind manually, it runs for a day or two and then the zone disappears completely.....
Re: does amahi reconfigure itself?
yes, updates in settings (like an application install), prompt a re-writing of the configuration files for bind.
we're talking (along with rgmhtt) on how to open up more control over this, like, e.g. doing it though an api or something.
if what you want to do simple or complex? if simple perhaps we can work together to add it to the platform with the UI?
amahi was not really mean as a general-purpose dns server ...

Re: does amahi reconfigure itself?
that would explain it. i was trawling throught the cron jobs etc to try and find where it was happening.
it affects my iphone as i use it for exchange and ipeng for squeezebox which are on different subnets.
when the iphone is on the amahi network via wireless, it will try and reach the fqdn of the exchange server.
my router (alix) pfsense see's this as a loopback and doesn't allow it. simple solution is to put a slave zone in amahi with the exchange server dns as the master zone for transfers.
suppose i could change amahi's dns forwarders to my router as it uses opendns as well and the router allows me to overide domains for dns which would allow me to point the exchange fqdn into the exchange private network.
amahi is a superb product for simplicity but maybe it just needs that little bit of tweakability for up and coming ubergeeks etc.
i'm sure they're aware as they have already offered an advanced tab etc which i'm sure over time will expand to a few other things. i'd love to help but my time is choca at the moment with IT projects imminently going live and last minute gliches that need political decisions to be made.
i'll certainly have more time towards the xmas period.
