CLOSED: Can't see partitions on all my disks

Postby tbro2 » Sun Jul 19, 2020 9:00 am

My new Amahi installation consists of 3 disks. One 500gb (Amahi installed here)... and 2 2TB drives.

The disk/partitions tab only shows me partitions on dev/sda. How can I view sdb and sdc?

You have to mount them manually in Linux.

See the add additional disk drives guidance in the wiki.

Also, if you search the forums you’ll likely find this question has been asked by others.

OK... I believe I followed the instructions carefully, but now my server won't boot. Says I'm in emergency mode... can't open console, the root account is locked.. etc. press enter to continue. Pressing enter returns the same error. Please advise.

You must have done something wrong or it would have booted.

What you are trying to do is for advanced users. Best advice I can offer is reinstall Fedora and Amahi, with only a single drive connected as the instructions state.

Then once you get everything working, add one drive manually. Ensure it mounts properly before rebooting.

Unfortunately, you are at a point now that we cannot assist. It would require paid support as it's quite complicated to get things back in order.

OK, I'll start over. BTW I used "vi" to edit the fstab. Is there a better editor?

Hope it goes better this time.

Many like to use nano.

You have to install it:

Code: Select all

sudo dnf install nano

Ah... thanks. I tried nano 1st and wondered why the command wasn't recognized.

Question... On the install I've been "unchecking" the 2 2tb drives. If I leave them all checked, will it add all 3 disks and mount them all... If so, where does the os get installed?

Recommend you do not connect those drives unless you know what you are doing.

This will minimize any issues you might have with the rest of the installation.

One user lost data by leaving the drives connected. Now he's scrambling to get it back.

OK, but the drives are new (no data). So what I'm gathering is one should only run the installation with a single drive.... and then add your storage drives via the "add a 2nd hard drive" wiki?

Yes that is correct.

Amahi was designed and tested with only a single disk drive and network card.
