Those of you who are using SSDs as their OS drives, how are your drives doing?

I have a Sandisk SSD Plus (had 3 year warranty) that has completely expired after 3.5 years. It's dead, PCs won't even enter BIOS with it plugged in. I'm reluctant to replace it with another SSD if it has been killed by the OS. I'm guessing I should have installed some S.M.A.R.T. tool to look after the drives.

I would probably choose a 2.5in HDD if I could be sure it'd survive the heat. I've got a GEN8 HP Microserver, space for a 5th drive is limited, hence the norm is to use a SSD next to the PSU or at the top of the case.

Are there any recommendations for settings for using Ssd on amahi? A brief Google shows there is split opinion as to whether journaling on ext4 is fine or destroys SSD. I suspect the greyhole log probably didn't help.

I really don’t see the advantage to using a SSD with Amahi.

They are best with a desktop system, not so much a server in my opinion.

In this case it's the position of the OS drive in my HP Gen8. It may get too hot. I have a spare 2.5in HDD that I don't mind sacrificing so I'll use that instead of the SSD and monitor HDD temps.

Yea probably best to use regular hard drive.

I am sure the temp will be fine.

Good to monitor though.
