Confusion..total confusion!!

I have been faffing about for two days now trying to find a decent guide/video about what happens after you have installed Amahi, how to load apps etc and why does it say they're not available etc setting up apps and shares etc a basic guide. I have been in IT for over 25yrs and pride myself in knowing a bit, but the lack of a decent guide/pointer a sort of dummies if you will is frustrating. All I want is a starting point, I'm am now considering ditching a good system for perhaps a lesser one with better instructions. HELP!!
