installation

Postby jspqcno1 » Sun Mar 05, 2017 12:51 pm

I started my server build process back in September. Short story I Just got everything together and ready to started over. I installed Fedora on my new machine. At the end of the installation it would not let me reboot without entering a root password. (The instructions say not to do this.) So I entered a simple password. This allowed me to get to the reboot step. After the reboot I get the login prompt, enter my user name. Hit enter, Asks for password. I can not type anything on the screen. It wont let me enter any character's. Looking for ideas.

Thanks,

There may be some drivers that your machine needs, but not present on the Fedora 23 Minimal CD. Have you tried the Fedora 23 DVD?

Also did you follow the instructions precisely? It says to create a user and password, but not a root password. If you did this, there would have been no issue.

Stating you were forced to set a root password is odd behavior. Please describe the steps you followed.

BTW, the official install guidance for Fedora 23 is at http://docs.amahi.org, labeled #Amahi 9.

Yes that is the guild I am using. I have gone as far as to bring my laptop in and go step by step. As for the fedora disc I am using, it is fedora 23 net install cd ISO. I have found the reason it was making me add a root password. I removed that install and started over. Now I make it all the way to the reboot option without a problem. I do the reboot and get the proper prompt. I put in my user name hit enter, it asks for a password. At this point it wont let me type in anything.
I thought I had all the drivers up to date. If you think that is possible I can go back and check them again. It doesnt make sense to me that I get this far and run into my problem. I believe its operator error, and I'm just missing it.
Thanks.

When you enter the password, there is no echo on the screen. Not sure why Fedora does this, but try entering the password and then hit return.

I have tried just typing in the password as if it was on the screen. I hit enter wait a second and get login incorrect. Then it goes back to the host prompt.

Are you using the password you set for the user in the Fedora 23 install? It's case sensitive, so needs to be exactly what you entered during install. The user is the one you created in the Fedora install, not root.

Also, I would recommend trying it a few times, typing slowly.

Yes it is correct. On the third install I documented each step just to be certian. I have tried typing this information in several times.
As the password never shows on the screen I have done it with great care to no result.

Not sure what else it could be. What language are you using? Maybe there is a problem with translation if it's not English.

Sorry, but you may want to do a reinstall with a simple user name and password. Are you using a complex password? Might try a simple one like p@ssw0rd and then change it once #Amahi is installed. I would also make the user name a single word with no capitalization or punctuation. Stay away from reserved names like admin or root.

I have not heard of anyone having issues with logging into the server after installing Fedora 23.

Ok will do. User name is simple, password is a little complex, nothing crazy. I am using english. I remember my last install went perfect. That was a different machine. Was hoping this machine would be better, its newer and faster.
Thanks for your help and I will start fresh tomorrow. I think I will slave the drive and completely blank it out.
