Thanks for reading. I know just enough about networking and computers to be dangerous but I don't have a deep knowledge. I set up Amahi 7 a few years ago and with the help of people here I even got a 4 disk greyhole set up operating smoothly. Fast forward to last weekend my router overheated an fried. The new router wasn't operating as smoothly with amahi as I would have liked so I tried to upgrade, that is where things went down hill.

I tried to go through the upgrade steps for Amahi 8/Fedora 21 but it didn't go smoothly. I seemed to have a lot more conflicts than anticipated by the walk through. I tried to repeat the steps a few times hoping it would correct itself but it didn't. In my stupidity I decided to push through and upgrade to Amahi 9/Fedora 23. Things got worse at this stage, when i enter the dnf system-upgrade reboot command my system goes through the initial upgrade but at some point in the process there is an error and the system reboots back to fedora 21. I can't read the error message quickly enough before the reboot so I don't know what the issue could be. I then tried to do a fresh install of Amahi 9 but trying to use both a disc and usb image to install Fedora 23 doesn't work and the system reboots to emergency mode.

Despite these issues I can see the HDA's through file explorer and I can access the data. Amahi is handling DHCP on the network.

I've listed some of the errors I'm getting below. Any suggestions on next steps? Is there a way to repair things? If i try to do a fresh install/build how do I handle my drives attached to the server? Do i just unplug them and reattach them after I get a fresh install running (assuming I can get past the Fedora install issues)?

When I go through the interactive network trouble shooter I get hung up on step 4 DNS for resolving internal host names. I get this message: Server: 208.67.222.222
Address: 208.67.222.222#53

** server can't find hda: NXDOMAIN

When I try to go to http://hda in a browser I get a page that says "Web application could not be started Phusion Passenger has listed more information about the error below" there is a ton of info on this page but the important stuff looks to be:

When you upgraded to Amahi 8, did you follow the upgrade instructions and troubleshooting guidance.

Trying to upgrade directly to Amahi 9 may have hosed your system. There is a good chance you may have to do a complete reinstall.

Are you on a 32- or 64-bit system? Did you check that the disc burned correctly and the image was not corrupt.

Thank you for the reply. I did follow the instructions you reference for the upgrade. I tried looking through the troubleshooting guide but it either wasn't applicable or i just don't know enough to make it applicable.

It's a 64 bit CPU but i'm not sure if the current fedora version is 32 or 64.

The image seemed to burn fine, i tried it on 3 different pieces of media with the same issue of it starting the install and then rebooting fedora 21 in emergency mode.

Yes unplug the Greyhole drives. There is guidance in the wiki for reconnecting them post-install.

I would recommend you follow the guidance at Amahi Docs for Amahi 9.

BTW if your Amahi 7 was 32-bit install, then that is why you are having problems. We only support 64-bit starting with Amahi 8.

one more basic question...

if i unplug the greyhole drives and attach them to a windows PC should i be able to read the data? I'd like to be able to still access some of the files while I'm updating Amahi but the 2 windows machines i tried don't detect the drives when i attach them.

Only if you have capability to access the Linux file system. I presume you did not have them formatted as NTFS.

Question about adding back my drives... I plugged them into the system and used disk wizard to mount them. but now i'm confused about how i access the data on them? Nothing appears in my shares when i look through file explorer.

You need to follow the reconnect Greyhole storage pool guidance in the wiki.

I presume you installed and setup up Greyhole already.
