newbee help

Postby cpg » Sat Sep 05, 2009 10:24 am

from the (discontinued) amahi-users mailing list:
Firstly can I am totally new to Linux and Amahi.

I have just had the Amahi home server installed,

I am planning to use it as part of a small office network for shared drives, Backup shared calendars VPN, VNC etc.

I am experiencing a few problems I have look though the forums but to no successes.

1) Passwording Shared drives and accessing control Panel. I have had a patch installed to stop access to the control panel but this I believe this has over ridden the user passwords for shared drives. Any ideas how to get around this problem only password the administration side.

2) I have been able to connect to HDA remotely via HDAconnect is there any way of allowing multiple access via VPN and do I need to install certificates If so how do I put them in place?

3) Network Issue. I can access Http://hda/setup form my windows Vista PC on the Local Network but I cant access any of the installed Applications. I only get page cannot be displayed. I have tried flushing the DNS on vista etc but no success. The applications work because I am able to run them form the desktop on the server

I am currently using the DHCP assigned by my router not by the server is this having an affect? If so can someone tell me how to activate the DHCP server in Amahi as it does not seem to respond.

Hope the above makes sense.

Many Thanks
My HDA: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz on MSI board, 8GB RAM, 1TBx2+3TBx1

it will have an effect. some features may not be present if not using the amahi DHCP server.

here is a list of tradeoffs when using different services.

the amahi dhcp should be running at all times unless disabled. what leads you to believe it is not reponding?

It probably doesn't seem to respond since the router is between the server and the client and thus the router will service the DHCP request, the server won't even see the DHCP req so it won't broadcast an address to the client.
