SOLVED: System Drive Total Failure

Postby milescmiller » Thu Mar 17, 2016 9:29 pm

I have had my Amahi server working flawlessly for a few months, and suddenly my system disk failed. I had a greyhole pool setup on several hard drives and all of my shares were checked on to be added to the pool. I have had no luck with recovering the system hard drive and it seems I need to reinstall. It looks like my stored data was preserved on the pooled drives since I see the used portion of the drives when I boot gparted.

Is there a resource someone can point me to which will help me reinstall Amahi on a new hard drive and still have access to my data on my shares? Any help is greatly appreciated.

The Greyhole tips wiki page might help you with your reisntall.

For the OS and Amahi, it's basically like starting over from scratch.

Thank you for the reply! I did as you said, followed the instructions and it's working! It's taking a long time for the greyhole to repopulate all the server files, but they are starting to appear in the shares slowly but surely.

What I had to do was:

1) Reinstall Amahi from scratch using same partition scheme as before
2) Reinstall apps that were installed previously (Greyhole, Stats, etc.)
3) Setup shares with identical names as before
4) Install the drives using hda-mount and edit /etc/fstab with new UUIDs
5) Add drives and shares to storage pool using the Dashboard

Files are starting to reappear in my shares as advertised! I hope this helps anyone else with a complete system drive failure. I'll be sure to back up this drive in the future to keep this from happening again.
