Hi all -
First of all, thanks to the developers for this great software and the people that help out on the forums. I've made it pretty far with no prior Linux experience thanks to all the questions and answers.
As noted on the subject line, I've had trouble with the app links on the dashboard... when I click them I get a DNS error when using my Macbook and the Chrome browser. However, when I do the same thing with the Chrome browser on my ipad there is no problem and the links work fine. It started with Plex which was the first app I tried. I spent hours trying to figure it out, then stumbled on a recommendation to try [my hda address]:32400/web/index.html# which worked and I can access it that way. Then a couple days later I tried owncloud and have the same problem, a DNS error. I just can't figure it out. Strangely, the owncloud link worked just fine yesterday for a couple hours and I assumed the problem had worked itself out somehow. But I was playing around in owncloud and then got the DNS error again.
I did go through the interactive network tool and posted the results in the IRC. Someone had me check the DNS servers listed in my network settings, which has the IP address for my HDA so he said he didn't know what the problem is.
Any help will be appreciated.
Bill
SOLVED: dashboard app links not working
Re: dashboard app links not working
Check the DHCP lease and DNS Server for the client. Is it pointing to the HDA?
I presume you have turned on your router's DHCP/DNS Server and all clients get their lease from the HDA, correct?

Re: dashboard app links not working
I did have the DHCP turned off on my router, but did not do anything regarding DNS. There is a box where I had to enter the IP address for the HDA as the DNS server. Did that, rebooted, and seems to be working for now. Thanks so much. Hopefully it will keep working this time.
Re: dashboard app links not working
That didn't last long. Already getting DNS error again.
Re: dashboard app links not working
Do you have settings for primary and secondary DNS? If so, put the HDA for both.
Typically the router DNS is set to the ISP. It appears the problem is definitely the router/HDA not working together correctly.
What type of router do you have?

Asus RT-N66U. I don't see a secondary DNS on there.
Re: dashboard app links not working
Ok. Was there anything in the DNS before? If not, recommend you leave it blank.
You may need to reboot the router afterwards and renew the DHCP lease on all clients as well.

No, it was blank and I added that. I'll try it, thanks

Re: dashboard app links not working
Just one thing I noticed, the IP address of the DNS server. Is your HDA IP address > 100?
If so, that can cause issues as the DHCP Server for the HDA uses 100-254. I recommend using an IP address < 100 for the HDA. The range of 2-99 are reserved for Fixed IP addressed (Static if you prefer) and are not used until you add them in the HDA Dashboard. Most routers are 1, so 2-99 are left for use as you choose.
That may be part of the problem you are having.

Yes, it is 197, which was the address of the laptop I installed Amahi onto. Will (or should) the following command as root user work? ...
hda-change-gw 192.168.1.5
