Hi,
Complete Newb here - be kind! I want to create a media server / home NAS/cloud and found Amahi - looks great. I thought I could recycle my old Macbook Pro (2.33ghz Intel Core Duo 2 with 2GB DDR2 RAM OS 10.6.8. Its a 64bit machine 2,2 if that helps.) I have an 8tb thunderbolt duo which could be useful storage. Upgrading the RAM is a possibility if it works. Does anyone know if this will work on a mac with this spec? I'm thinking booting from a USB may be tricky?
Thanks!
Macbook Pro suitable?
Re: Macbook Pro suitable?
Hi
I tried running this off a laptop some years ago, the only thing i can advise is to run it through a machine i.e. desktop
The issues involved with having a laptop as a server is mainly heat especially if your streaming media such as movies, not so bad with music.
I would look for a quadcore desktop if you want to stream media across a network.
Your macbook will run fedora so there is no worries with compatibility if your worried about that, try it out and see where you get with it,
