This sure is a newbie question, but here it is...

I've installed Fedora Core 10 from DVD with the additional Amahi repository (but not installed Amahi). The system in that state can access the network without problems.

However, when I install Amahi (hda-install <mycode>), the network connection is unavailable. I believe that means that I've got my Amahi settings wrong, but am not sure how to determine what the correct settings should be.

How do I find out the netmask, gateway, IP, and any other information necessary so I can properly configure Amahi?

From your client, do the following in command/terminal (depeding on Windows/Linux/OSX)

Win- ipconfig

OSX/Linux- ifconfig

This is with DHCP ON on the router and the HDA Off, this should tell your your router IP. That is CRITICAL information when creating an HDA Profile at http://www.amahi.org.

You need to make sure the one you enter and the one it gives you are matched perfectly.

Im thinking you entered the wrong IP address for your router.

I am running Fedora Core 10 on a PC. "ifconfig" tells me the following, but I am not sure how to determine the information needed for Amahi's configuration from it. Can you help?

Come back to the IRC channel when you get a chance, you might try resetting your routers back to default settings (that is if its not a problem) and seeing if that helps at all. Might have a setting that your Fedora box does not like.

Also, what OS did you use for your webserver? Fedora might not have a driver ootb for your network card.

I've got port configurations for other machines on the network (my Personal Video Recorder needs specific ports open), but that is, I think, the only "special" configuration I've got.

The server (intended to be the HDA) has always run Fedora... When it was the webserver and now that I'm re-purposing it to an HDA, it's always been Fedora.

I think it's a configuration issue... If I wipe the entire system and install Fedora Core 10 fresh, it connects just fine to the network both during and after installation. Once I install Amahi, it stops working. Somehow, I am not configuring Amahi correctly and that's causing it not to work.

If I could find a way to show what configuration Fedora is using before I install Amahi, I could configure Amahi to use that information and it should work... So, for example, how do I tell what gateway Fedora is using "by default"? "ifconfig" didn't seem to give enough information...

I also see that the hub is no longer required and would consider removing it from the stack if I can keep everything working as it is...

This is very interesting. Im not sure where you can figure out what its using, but if you are correct, it will be using the 1.1.

Are you sure your routers ip is .1.1 and not .0.1?

http://www.drewvogel.com/images/netmap.jpg has my current netmap... Still BAFFLED about why I cannot get Amahi to work in my configuration! Any suggestions?

I am going to try rewiring everything this evening... I'll turn off everything connected to the routers, switch the wires around, and reboot the computers. Do I also need to reset the routers (pull their power cords for a few minutes)?

What should I expect after this? Will it all just "work", or will there likely be additional configuration necessary? If so, what might that configuration be?

EDIT: I will rewire everything in the way cpg suggested.

Are you going the way cpg recommended or another way?
