password not working in Gnome

I've installed Amahi7, and the VNC app, installed gnome as per instructions when the vnc app didn't want to install.
I just added a new drive to the system, and it's saying that authentication is required.
I tried the password, and the root password for my user, neither worked.
I also noticed that the gnome installed seems to be a reduced variant. Is there a way to make this into the full featured version(my current server, whs2011, runs headless 90% of the time, but I have a monitor hooked up to it for maintenance every once in a while. I'd like to be able to run Wine on the Amahi server so I can run a Win7 image for some windows only programs.
My next step once I get the drives installed is to install the GreystoneUI. Can I mount the drives through Greystone, or do I have to mount them in Fedora first?
Am I better off blowing away this install of Amahi, installing the full Fedora first, then Amahi, then install VNC, would that make life easier for what I'm trying to do?
