Newbie at a planning phase. Remote Access to windows PCs?

Hi. I'm having issues with my WHS2011 system and thought it would be good to re-visit servers. Using a Linux HDA sounds very interesting so... My initial question:

One feature/app I don't see in the forum is connections to existing windows PCs using Remote Desktop or a method of Remote Web Access to Windows based laptops and other devices inside the Home Network. Is there a active topic on this?

Thanks for any pointers on this. A large usage I have is to access home networked attached windows-based PCs for running apps while located remotely.

OpenVPN will allow you to access many of your network devices. You should be able to remotely access those using Remote Desktop providing they are setup for such.

There is not much documentation on this as most users don't have this requirement. If you are willing to document the process, we would greatly appreciate it. This is something well suited for the Amahi wiki.

Ok... I'll start a small project and will document what I'm doing. First I can retarget a small shuttle box (old 2007 SharePoint server) as the HDA....more next week.

Sounds good. I have seen some guidance on the internet for using OpenVPN and remote desktop. That might help with this project.
