Can't boot after removing hard drive

My Amahi 7 system refuses to boot to login (remote or local) after unplugging a failing hard drive.
  • 1. It's commented out of /etc/fstab
    2. It's definitely not the main OS drive

I've tried plugging in a monitor but the boot text gets cleared so I can't see whether there are any error messages. I looked at /var/log/boot.log but this only appears to capture the last successful login after I reattached the drive. Is there a way of capturing more boot history?

I've tried searching the net and found:
http://www.atrixnet.com/script-to-offli ... -in-linux/
Is there more to tidy up after removing a disk?

Any clues what I should try next?

Can you reattach the drive? I would try putting it all back. If it boots back up, then try removing it again.

Then ensure you remove the line from /etc/fstab for that drive. Unmount it before rebooting to be safe.

If you re using Greyhole, don't forget to remove it using the appropriate Greyhole command.

Thanks but I've already tried unmounting and removing from fstab

Now I did have greyhole running a little while back but my greyhole.conf got trashed when I installed the new web app :-(

The old greyhole.conf definitely had these drives included in the storage pool but the new greyhole.conf has none. I'm pretty sure that greyhole is not the problem as the log says it's not running.

Any other ideas?

When you installed Amahi, did you have the other drives connected? Wondering if it might have put the grub menu on the failing drive? Sounds odd, but I have seen this happen in the past.

I presume you only removed the one drive.
