Installed 2nd hard drive and now issues

Postby Maxpwr » Sun Oct 19, 2014 1:23 pm

Ok so I followed the wiki for installing and formatting my second hard drive. I had a few typos at some places, for instance at the

Code: Select all

mv /var/hda/files/* /var/hda/files/drives/sdb1/
I had mv /var/hda/files* so I stopped it after a few seconds of running and re-typed the code. Now I only have a few folders in /var/hda/files such as books movies and music. How can I get the other folders back? Or do I just need to create new ones? Thanks.

What ever directory you were in when you typed the code is where those folders are now located. I would look for them and try to put them in the right place.

The alternative is to create new ones if they were empty.

As you found out, it's important to check the syntax before executing on the command line. Results can be disastrous.

I could not find the folders such as pictures, public, tv, and videos. I did searches for them but had not luck. I just created new folders. It still looks like the data is still somewhere on my 400gb hard drive but when I did a search in the file explorer in fedora it never showed anything. I was root when I performed the mv command but I didn't move to any particular directory just initiated the command.

If you know the name of a file that was in one of the folders, you could search for it command line.

Code: Select all

find / -name filename

Well I tried finding files and no luck, it would just return. This was done with sudo.

Code: Select all

find: ‘/run/user/1000/gvfs’: Permission denied
I then explored to that folder without any permissions issues and found that the folder was empty. Looks like for whatever reason when I had the typo and started the mv command it lost the files completely.

Ok I re-installed everything and software updates showed available. I updated them and it gave me message at the end to yum-complete-transaction and I did this. I rebooted the machine later to and when it came up it showed schrodinger cat but will not boot but just display hexidecimal numbers on the screen. I can however go to the previous kernel version and the machine boots up fine. Is there a fix to this?

That is an OS issue, not an Amahi related one. You will need to check Fedora's web site/bug tracker for assistance on this one.

The easiest way i added a new disk was to use the HDA Disk Wizard. Worth a shot if your having trouble.

The HDA Disk Wizard is no longer LIVE. It is under development and not stable for use.
