Connect to HDA from remote access - Now What?

Postby Eleecho » Thu Aug 07, 2014 9:48 pm

Hey Everyone,

I'll try to keep this short, I got Amahi installed, I can access it within my local network, and access the shares from the local network, everything is working great. I wanted to access my files remotely, so I installed openVPN to the machine and I opened up the port on my router (1194 UDP). I installed the openVPN for the client machine. I can login with a user account on the client pc remotely, and I can log in if I search http://hda/ from the client machine remotely aswell.

But how do I access the shares/files remotely? This maybe be a dumb question

You access files the same way you would as if you were doing it within your network. That's what VPN does, basically provides you secure access.

Well that's what I had assumed, to access the files within the local network I just go to computer and to the network dropdown and it's listed as HDA and I can access the files. But when I am using a client machine from outside the local network, the HDA does not show up in the list, even though it's connected?

You may need to try connecting with the domain name. Usually when I VPN, I have to use it to get the Dashboard.
