I've just done my first install of Amahi 7 on Fedora 19 and the last thing that it says I need to do is turn off all other DHCP servers - does this mean the wireless modem router and is so does that mean that the Amahi server will provide the DHCP leases and the modem router just become a network router.

Secondly, if my first assumption is correct does that mean that all my household devices internet connection will be trafficked through the server and if so will this affect my connection speed for the devices if I am streaming and downloading at the same time.

Yes you can use your HDA as the DHCP server. You turn off the router DHCP server and the HDA will provide DHCP leases to all devices, wireless or hard wired.

You can choose to continue to use your router as your network's DHCP server, however you will need to disable that feature on the HDA. There are also tradeoffs that you should be aware of regarding not using the HDA as the DHCP server.

The speed of your devices connecting to the internet and streaming should be unaffected as this only affects who issues the DHCP lease required to connect your devices to the internet. Speed is dependent on your internet provider.
