Tutorial or Study Guide: I am not a programmer!

New to Amahi and excited about the possibilities.
That being said, I am not a programmer and everything I know about computers I have learned through forums such as this and endless searching.

Recently reviewed postings here and the Amahi general FAQ section. Most of the documentation appears to be written for programmers, or those with more of an understanding of programming language than I have.

For example, in this thread of the forums, Newbies and Beginners, I read a question about using the Amahi DNS. The response pointed to the FAQ section here - https://www.amahi.org/faq/is-dhcp-server-required .

This FAQ begins with two paragraphs that are loaded with acryonyms and phrases that are Greek to me.
Could someone please offer a translation, or point me to a true beginners guide?

I installed Amahi through the express install disk. After considerable time and effort, all is up and running and my home server is working. I want to learn to take advantage of all there is to offer.

Thanks

Hello,

These terms you describe are not programmer terms. These are basic network terms. If you struggle with acronyms, you could use an acronym finder on line.
http://www.acronymfinder.com/

If you don't have a basic understanding of networking and computers in general, you will have a hard time. Running a server is not a simple task nor will it ever be for most. It does require some research and learning of new concepts.

We are happy to help, but we ask for detailed questions for the issues you need assistance. There are so many variables when it comes to diagnosing problems, it's hard to help without more information.

The best way to learn is read and play around. That is how many newbies have learned over the years.

BTW, you can check out our wiki as it does offer assistance as well.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I think I do have a 'basic' understanding of networking, but obviously need to continue learning. I will study the information provided in the wiki; that should be a great help.

As I have my server up and running, I am making progress; maybe a little impatient!

Thanks again. You will surely hear from me again with questions and requests for guidance!

Great to hear. There is always a learning curve, but you will get there. It does require patience :)
