Must I use Amahi DNS

I know that if I disable the DNS of the Amahi server and from the IP settings on my PC allow the DNS settings to be set by my router, that it will not resolve the internal network names for the apps.
This said, I really don't want to rely on the Amahi server to do the DNS work, as this is not just adding a media server, this is adding essentially a critical network device.
So, any ideas or comments?
