Beta Apps and Amahi 7

Postby whaites » Tue Aug 27, 2013 11:22 am

I'm hoping to switch over from Windows Home Server to use Amahi. I've attempted an install using the Express DVD for 7.1, but I've run into a minor issue. Since I'm going to re-install anyway, I'm wondering if 7 is the correct version for me.

Basically, I need Logitech Media Server, some way to do DLNA, and Greyhole. It seems that the squeezeserver app and DLNA are both in alpha/beta - does that mean I cannot use these apps at all under Amahi 7, or just that I cannot one-click install them?

If they are simply unavailable yet for 7, can I find an express install for a version where they are available? Or do I have any options for getting Amahi plus squeezeserver plus DNLA ?

Thanks!

The apps you reference are just not ready for Amahi 7 yet. We are working to get them solidified, but sometimes it just takes longer than we would like to get them reliable.

Last time I checked, Logitech Media Server was not compatible with Fedora 19. They have not updated it in a while, so until they do it will likely remain in ALPHA/BETA status.

As for DLNA, that one is a different animal. We are working on it, but still not quite ready. We have so many things to work, that our small volunteer team is overwhelmed with tasks. Once we can get it sorted out, it will be released.

Finally, Greyhole is part of Amahi 7, but needs to be configured manually. There is no GUI at the moment. It will work though if you configure it by hand.

Probably the only version of Amahi where all these apps are LIVE and working is Fedora 14. You are welcome to try it, but be aware that it's no longer supported by Amahi or Fedora.

Sorry I don't have better news, but wanted you to have all the facts. If you want a quick fix, install Fedora 14. If you want something sustainable and still supported, try Amahi 7 on Fedora 19. Just understand with the latter you will have to install all the apps and such manually without the help of the Amahi platform.

I just got Squeezeserver working with Amahi 7 / F19.
Not sure if it is the actual, official Logitech version, but they've pretty much abandoned squeezebox anyway.

I followed the instructions I found on the slim forums:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthrea ... -and-7-7-3

This pointed to the Community Squeeze repo:
http://www.communitysqueeze.org/repo.jsp

This thread notes that previous LMS repos would cause problems. Not an issue for me, but others should be aware.

I followed the instructions found there, but modified them slightly for F19.
So, I did this:

First I got the RPMFusion repos - I guess they are a dependency.

Code: Select all

sudo yum -y install http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-19.noarch.rpm

Code: Select all

sudo yum -y install http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-19.noarch.rpm
Then the LMS from Community Squeeze

Code: Select all

sudo yum -y install http://www.communitysqueeze.org/repo/community-squeeze-repo.noarch.rpm

Code: Select all

sudo yum -y install logitechmediaserver
There is mention of some firewall issues obstructing LMS. I did not run into this issue, the firewalld wasn't running on my machine.

I edited my default firewall config just incase - http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:Testca ... orkManager. Config file: /etc/firewalld/firewalld.conf. I changed my default zone=trusted

I was also able to install Triode's 3rd Party Spotify plug-in directly from the squeezebox admin interface. Currently, I'm able to listen to Spotify on my squeezebox boom, which is a big win. I'm still waiting to populate my music shares in greyhole, hopefully I'll get that tested as well, but I would imagine issues there would be in figuring out my greyhole config.

Hope this works for others.

Good to hear. What is the app version? Do you know what dependencies it needs?

I will see if I can update the Amahi app. Our policy is to not use repos in Amahi apps. I should be able to use the latest RPM though as we have done in the past and get it working if they have updated it.

Based on the info you provided, looks like I how the Amahi app working now for Amahi 7 :) Thanks for running this one to ground.

I was able to download and package the RPMs needed from the repo and use them in the app. I have also added the server feature, so it shows in the dashboard for easy stop, start, and restart if needed.

If you would like to test it, PM me your amahi.org user name. Keep in mind you would need to either use a VM or remove your current version.

Thanks again for the clarification!
