Insatall without Amahi run DHCP?

Hi guys!

I am wanting to use Amahi for my small business hub. File storage, media server, project management, etc... We have multiple stores across the state and we need a server and hub for all the locations to get stuff from.

However, the server is going to be based inside my home. I have a router that is already being used for DHCP. Can I use Amahi behind that router? I understand that Amahi is meant to be used as the router, but I don't want to do that. If I forward all the needed ports to my Amahi box, is that good enough?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes you don't have to use Amahi as your DHCP server. It does not replace the router, only the DHCP and DNS functions. See the link below for what affects using or not using Amahi for those capabilities are imposed.

I have not installed Amahi yet so this question may be a little newbie / naive. I was considering using the Amahi computer on a part time basis. Off at night, off when at work etc. In this case shouldn't the DHCP be administered by the router since the computer will not be operating 24/7?

Which configuration option would you recommend for this type of usage, 1, 2 or 3; ( http://www.amahi.org/faq#is-dhcp-server-required )?

Thanks

Yes you can do that. Just understand you may lose functionality. A server is meant to run 24/7.

Option 3 is your only choice if you will power off the HDA.

I assume that this is also reversible. If I find that I want more functionality or find it worth running 24/7 I can reset the program to run the DHCP.

That is correct. You can disable and enable DHCP via the Amahi HDA dashboard. It is enabled by default.
