- plug the drive
- find out where it's mounted
- make a new share pointing to it
- open that share (this is the origin)
- open the destination share
- copy and paste at will
in a relatively fast network, this ought to be good enough.
on a slow network, then some linux mojo is required.
when done,
- delete the origin share
- unmount the drive's partitions
- unplug the drive
