No joy, no server. I ran the troubleshooter and got the following result:
Step 1: Your HDA IP address is 192.168.1.10
Step 2: Your HDA domain name is home.com
Step 3: Your router IP address is 192.168.1.1
Step 4: Your HDA DNS server is NOT working fine for local hostnames.
It advised: "Post the following in either IRC, or the forums: Using the Network Troubleshooter, I failed step 4 - DNS resolving for internal hostnames."
I originally installed Ubuntu server but then installed the desktop version.
I am using my router's DHCP server.
My Amahi control panel status is "awaiting install".
I cannot ping HDA by name or ip address.
Oh, and I can't log in as root user in the terminal...it says "Authentication failure"
Any help appreciated...I'm a newbie with little time...
Network troubleshooting - DNS not resolving
Re: Network troubleshooting - DNS not resolving
Did you follow the installation guidance at http://docs.amahi.org? Also recommend you take a look at the log files in /var/log for potential issues.

Re: Network troubleshooting - DNS not resolving
Thanks for responding - I reviewed the installation instructions and as far as I know I followed them, the exception being I installed server, changed my mind, and then used a command to get desktop. I spent hours doing this as I'm new to Linux. Everything seemed OK...
Which log do you mean? There are so many there. Remember I'm a newbie. I opened the apport.log folder which had recent changes and errors. Here are some:

Re: Network troubleshooting - DNS not resolving
Not sure if that would have any impact, depends on what you installed and when you installed it. Amahi must be installed prior to any customizations, that includes switching from server to desktop.
You might check the syslog for info.
