Adding files from different computers to HDA

OK, I thought I could figure this out myself. But when I've tried to add shares to include files from different computers, I'm lost. I am working from the console, but I'm not sure what the path is. I'm new to command line and linux, so any help would be appreciated. I've read the wiki and am still clueless, so please don't direct me there.

Thanks.
Jon

If you are trying to map drives from other systems in your LAN, that can be difficult. Depends on what the OS is for those machines and you will have to ensure the HDA has access to them.

What guidance are you following?

OK, so if adding files/folders from other computers is difficult, what is the best way to add them to the HDA? For example, I've tried moving files from one computer to the HDA video share, but when I click on the 'video' share button from the DHA homepage, nothing shows up. In fact, there are no files found at all on the HDA.

As far as OS, I have one computer running linux (ubuntu 10.04), 2 XP machines, and 1 windoze 7.

I am trying to follow the wiki, but it really doesn't go into much detail other than when adding shares - do not edit the path unless you are 'hacking'. Well, from what I understand, I need to do some hacking?

The HDA dashboard does not display files. That is done with a file explorer on the client. For example in Windows, you would enter \\hda in the address block. All the shares will be displayed and then you can access each folder for read/write as needed.

Here is some info on access shares via linux.

You do not have to do any hacking. You can copy files from Windows clients to HDA shares, then access them from any client.

We understand our instructions need work. Unfortunately we do not have the resources at the moment. Hopefully one day we can get something more detailed for users.
