Networking HELP... :/

Postby scorpsdomain » Wed Aug 22, 2012 1:42 am

So, a friend suggested Amahi, we took an extra desktop that I was gifted over to his place to install Linux (Ubuntu) and Amahi, got it working fine.

Brought the PC back to my house to set up, and have been trying to get it to network right ever since.

Not sure the correct steps to do, and NONE (that I can find) of the helps on Wiki, the docs page, or the forum help specifically.

I know that DHCP and DNS need...worked...somehow. Shut off on router etc.
I am pretty sure SOMETHING needs forwarded (a port) SOMEWHERE...
Amahi PC and Main PC need rebooted to asign new IPs to...I'm pretty sure...

Other than that information, I have no idea what to do, and still have no idea where to start.

I can't access the internet from the Amahi PC at all, no matter what configs I try.
From my main desktop, I can access the internet fine through my router when it's configs are factory, with or without my Amahi PC turned on.

When I disable my router's DHCP, then the only thing I can access anymore is Facebook (reasoning is cache, or cookies, or something...basically cause I'm on it all the time), but can't access anything else, including the networking troubleshooter, or amahi wiki or forums.

I have MINIMAL skill in linux, basic/beginners skill with programming...and while I know computers and I know them well...networks I can barely understand...ideally, using Amahi is going to help me with that...if I can get it to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First thing to check is the IP address of your router. It must match the one you set up originally for Amahi. If not, you can change it via command line.

http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Find_Your_Gateway_IP

Then if you need to change the HDA gateway IP, you can follow this guidance.

http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Network_troubleshooting

This is not an ideal situation. It's always best to setup Amahi in your own network, otherwise you risk problems such as this. Hopefully the profile you configured on amahi.org matches your network. If it does not, you will need to start over from scratch.

That's what I was wondering last night right before or after posting this. I will attempt to change the ip settings...worst comes to worse, I can just reset modem again right? (I've had to reset it each time so far from not being able to log onto it.)

If the IP for the HDA and router do not match the original configuration, it will not work. Recommend you leave DHCP on for your router until you get things resolved.

The credentials you have on amahi.org profile must match your network configuration.

Alrighty, finally got around to re-setting it up.

Re-installed Ubuntu and Amahi, and now it's working fine. Haven't switched over from DHCP? or DNS?
And both server and regular are working fine.

Now some of the apps...like the streaming and qBittorrent...how to I get access to them outside of my network?
Or...how to host a website from this Amahi-Server PC?

Is there an easy-to-follow guide for this?
