Hi everybody

Today my hole Server hangs.. i don't know why but i think one hard drive is dead.

I can restart the server start the 2.6.35.14.. Kernel and after the login the GUI hangs up. in TTY2 i have the following message when i "Enter" login.
Then see Attachment, i receive this error. (ErrorMessage.jpg)

I have to shutdown the server by pressing the "Shutdown" button more than 5 seconds..

When i look in Bios the PC don't see my Main HD - its a Corsair SSD..
Edit: If you see the picture the bios can't see the corsair ssd (eSATA Port5).. it think this hd is broken.. what do you mean?

Not sure what is going on, but you can boot a Live CD such as Ubuntu and comment out the drive or drives that may be causing the issues.

One word of caution on using Solid State Drives, they require additional tweaks to the OS and should only be formatted as ext4. I have done extensive research on using them with Linux, and they are not as well supported as in Windows 7.

You can find guidance all over the internet about what needs tweaked for using a SSD with Fedora or Ubuntu.

And how can i comment out my harddrives?

The Problem ist the SSD is my System Drive. The hole Amahi and Fedora is on this Drive.
And this server runs for more then 1 year on this SSD ..

You edit /etc/fstab as root and put a # in front of the drives you want to keep from mounting.

SSDs work fine for the most part, but they are not designed for Linux and servers. They actually make special SSD for servers. Of all the things I have read, many discourage the use of a SSD for anything other than a client desktop use for the average home user.

You gain little performance on a server. The speed difference after boot for apps is more apparent when using desktop apps. I am using one and see little performance improvement once the OS is booted. I did have to do several manual tweaks to ensure the drive was optimized for Linux. That included moving the swap file so the drive was not constantly getting pounded.

hmm. ok. i think my ssd doesn't work with the amahi..
Which HDD can you advise to me?

I have an Intel Desktop Board DH55TC Mainboard.

Drives are not specific to Amahi, but rather the OS. Suggest you check Ubunut or Fedora web site for additional help.

I will tell you SSD is not best suited for Linux. There are additional tweaks needed to make the work correctly. There are many who do use them with success, however I have heard of many whose drives went bad in a year.

You best option is to use a normal hard drive. There is little benefit if any for using SSD. They are better suited for Windows or Mac OS, especially with programs that are loaded constantly when used. A server does not work that way, so I see little benefit for using them other than a faster boot time. Not a big plus in my book considering the price of SSD storage.
