Hi,

I am fairly new to both Linux and Amahi, and have a question that may seem simple, but I am really struggling to get DLNA to work. Amahi is installed on Ubuntu 12.04. I have bought the app, and find it in my Amahi dashboard; when I press install, it reports as being installed without error.

Howver, no /var/hda/apps/dlna/amahi.conf is created. Not only the file, but the entire directory is missing. Trying commands related to amahi-dlna, such as "service amahi-dnla start", is not recognized. From another forum post, I tried "rpm -q amahi-dlna" and got back that the package was not installed. If I do "service --status=all" I find a bunch of services listed, but no amahi-dlna.

From the Amahi dashboard, the app looks like it installs and uninstalls just fine.

If I check my /var/log/amahi-app-installer.log file I find multiple entries (from multiple uninstall-reinstalls trying to fix the problem), looking like this:

I find no traces of a /tmp/minidlna/minidlna.log file, nor of /tmp/minidlna itself.

Any idea how I messed this up, and how to fix it?

The guidance you are trying to follow does not apply to Ubuntu most likely. This app streams media, so the only way to test is to access via a client machine. I have it installed and appears to work fine on my HDA.

The minidlna.conf file can be found in /etc directory. Also the start and stop commands are service minidlna start/stop.

Sorry for the confusion. It appears we need to start marking the wiki guidance accordingly so users don't try to apply Fedora guidance to Ubuntu machines.

I had actually found the minidlna.conf file and noticed its similarity to amahi-dlna.conf, but was unable to understand their relation. As you correctly assumed, I turned out to be following Fedora guidance.

It now works on my PS3, and it is amazingly cool. However, I do note that some files I placed in the minidlna video folder does not show up, even if they are encoded with exactly the same parameters in Handbrake as I use for other old DVDs that do appear. Been unable to figure out why. Have not been running it for too long, but it seems like some of the files originally missing has been added later?

However, most movies now work flawlessly, so I love it even if I still struggle with understanding why the ps3 refuses to to show a few remaining files.

Glad it worked out for you. Ensure the permissions on the files you are having problems with are set correctly. Typically is is your user name:uses and 775 for read/write access.

Hey I am having troubles getting PS3 to work with DLNA. I am running Ubuntu 12.0.4 . Windows sees the shares and everything seems to work just fine with that but ps3 sees the dlna server but the folders are empty. Is there some advanced configuration I need to do in the minidlna.conf file? Any suggestions to get me going in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Check the file permissions and ownership to ensure they are correct. Other than that, it might be a compatibility issue with minidlna and PS3. You might check the config file to ensure it is set to work with PS3.

Not sure if there is anything specific for it, but worth checking. There should be something on the internet to indicate such.

Where can I get the PS3 Media server app. Do have to be a tester to try it out it?

It is an ALPHA app, so I will need to check to see if it is working or not. I will tell you it was not updated for Ubuntu, but may not require much.

I will add it to my to do list and see if I can get it working.
