DVDRom is not detected

I am not very familiar with Fedora 14 and linux in general but managed to setup and configure my Amahi server using all the online help I could find.
The only problem I cannot solve is my DVD Rom mounting.
I would like to include the drive in to my shares but it seems like linux doesn't detect it at all :? . It is not listed in dev. I have created a media\cdrom folder and added it to shares but I realise without mounting the physical drive I will have no hope.
I also need to add that the drive eject button doesn't do anything as well. Please note I install Fedora using that particular drive.
Please help with the problem.

Hello,

If your DVD drive is not showing, recommend you check out Fedora help. This is an OS issue and sounds like possibly a driver problem.

Thanks bigfoot for your reply.
I can't believe I made the mistake by not checking the drive cables before posting  .
Fedora mounts it automatically when a disk is inserted. Is it possible to make the actual drive to apear in shares so I can read (and hopefully write) the disk from Windows 7 PCs? I realise I can share the mounted disk from Linux PC but I am after sharing the drive (the same share name - DVDROM) which will give remote access to any disk I will insert.

I don't think it will work as when you insert a DVD, it mounts it based on the DVD contents. For example, it would mount Windows as /media/Windows.
