OK I have installed, I have reinstalled (repeat ad infinitum!) I can ping by ip address and access sites by ip address, but I can not access anything by name.
I can access the dashboard from my windows PC,but when I access the control panel it tells me 'awaiting install'
I don't want to disable the routers DHCP until everything is working.

Actually I can't (well can't find out how do do it) and I don't really want to disable the routers dhcp as if we have a powercut I run it off an inverter and use the laptop

the problem with that is that without disabling DHCP in your router you won't be able to test if everything works.
What you can do is disable DHCP in your router temporarily (just to check everything) or only use Amahi for your internal DNS.
There are some threads on this forum on how to achieve this, or come by in IRC.

I was following the installation notes!, mind you it's all one big (steep) learning curve
I will have to find out how to disable the dhcp in the router, (bthomehub 1.5)
Now the next question, what chanell on IRC as I am a newbie to that..
