Hi folks. My first post. I've built my Amahi HDA and have just installed CrashPlan. I moved my shares from /var/hda/files out of the root mount to /var/hda/files/drives/drive3, which is the backup source I used in CrashPlan. It looks like CrashPlan is backing up the symlinks and not the actual files. My files are stored in a Greyhole pool where I have two disks pooled.
/var/hda/files/drives/drive3
/var/hda/files/drives/drive6
Am I pointing CrashPlan at the right backup source? If not, where should I be pointing it?
Thanks.
CrashPlan - what directory on the HDA do I back up?
Re: CrashPlan - what directory on the HDA do I back up?
Hello,
In order to work with files locally on the HDA, you need to install the mount_local_shares script for Greyhole. This should ensure CrashPlan backs up the files versus the symlinks.

Re: CrashPlan - what directory on the HDA do I back up?
Thanks for your quick reply. I worked through the instructions to which you linked. In the wiki it says to use the user name with which Fedora was installed but when I use that, it tells me it doesn't exist, which is correct. I have no users on the HDA using that user name. I used a user name for the Fedora install that is not one that I use on the HDA. I ended up using an existing user on my HDA and that seems to work
. Do you see any dramas with my using an existing user on my HDA? Or should I actually create a user on my HDA with the user name I created when originally installing Fedora?
I'm getting some weird errors when logging onto my HDA from the Fedora GUI. I'll post those in a separate topic. I've made some classic Linux newb mistakes, which probably hasn't helped. I somehow ending up with two users where one had a capital R and the other a small r as the first letter. The capital R had ownership of all the files stored on the machine but somehow the little r user couldn't access any of the files. I ended up changing ownership to the small 'r' user and deleting the capital 'R' user. That may have something to do with my problems.

Re: CrashPlan - what directory on the HDA do I back up?
I think that is the correct way to do it. As long as that user has permissions to access the shares you want to back up, that should work great.I ended up using an existing user on my HDA and that seems to work
