I am in the process of migrating to Amahi from WHS (currently copying over media) and have a question on backups. I think I would like to use CrashPlan for backups from a Windows PC as it is similar to how WHS operated, install a client portion and configure backups to the server.
The guide on the wiki (http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Crashplan) seems to discuss how to install CrashPlan to the server, or rather install it to Fedora and access it outside of Amahi through VNC, FreeXer, etc.
It looks like there is a CrashPlan app in Beta. Does this app allow you to see/schedule backups from the Amahi dashboard? That would be nice so I could go to one place, quickly, to do everything server related and not have a different method of connecting for different purposes.
Confused on CrashPlan - app vs. regular install?
Re: Confused on CrashPlan - app vs. regular install?
As far as I know, you don't need an Amahi app to use Crashplan.
You simply install it on each machine on your network and configure where you want the backups to go. If you backup to machines on your network, Crashplan is free. You can also choose to backup to Crashplan's cloud storage for a fee.
I have my machines configured to back up to my hda (and the hda to backup to one of my other machines). It works great. It saved my *** once when I accidentally deleted an important file. I was able to easily go back and restore it from my backup. I'm a big fan of this backup solution (and I don't have any connection with Crashplan!)
