Dual LAN for DHCP Server

Postby wazzageek » Thu Apr 09, 2009 6:15 am

Hi all

I am a new user to Amahi and I am looking for a motherboard for my server. Do I need dual LAN sockets to use the DHCP server with Amahi.

Thanks and Regards
Warren

uhm... any mainboard with dual LAN should do. However, search on the internet on boards that are known to work with Linux.
I really only recommend 1 brand for great linux support, but it'll cost you dearly: Tyan (mainboards go from $250 and up)
Tyan makes server grade mainboards (dual CPU sockets, plenty of RAM slots (8 is quite normal, top end is 18 slots up to 144GB max)), but this means buying an AMD Opteron or Intel Xeon CPU. I'm not sure you need that kind of hardware (if you did you wouldn't ask, no offense)

or you go the cheap way and buy an el cheapo mainboard with 1 LAN, and buy a second NIC for $10 and put it in there... your call :)

no, it's not required.

amahi is not equipped at the moment to be a firewall/gateway, if that is what you had in mind.

eth0 is supported out of the box (you can change things by hand to support eth1, ... patches welcome :) ).
My HDA: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz on MSI board, 8GB RAM, 1TBx2+3TBx1
