transmission 2.22 on a macbook interferes with Amahi(?)

Postby retinalcircus » Mon Mar 14, 2011 7:10 pm

thanks in advance for any assistance offered on this...

after getting my amahi running - whenever i try to download torrents overnight to my macbook using transmission 2.22 on my macbook (transmission is not installed on amahi), I wake up to find the download stalled, and no internet connectivity on any device on the network. if i quit transmission, internet service comes back (several hours later). After such a disruption, the DLNA server on amahi does not "come back" without opening up the config file and the log file, and restarting the service by clicking the restart button several times.

I checked the preferences in transmission, and it is using port 51413 for sharing data with other bittorent folks.

The DLNA config file says it is using port 8200.

What could possibly be going on that is interrupting my network services?

Can you check the log files in /var/log on the HDA? There might be some clues there as to what is going on.

IGNORE THE REST OF THIS THREAD (unless you got time on your hands...) -retinalcircus

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm looking in the "messages" log and have posted an excerpt below. I was running Transmission from the same machine the HDA is on when all internet connectivity went away again (even on the HDA). I don't really know what I'm looking at in the log, but it seems like the comments suggest my ISC DHCP needs updating. I visited the ISC website listed in the log comments. I'm gonna make a small leap here and guess that I need to install DHCP 4.2.1 - I'll try it and report results back here. BTW- "globallocal" is the name I gave my system

Thanks again for assistance.

I am trying to install DHCP 4.2.1, but it doesn't work when I try to run the configure command. Paste from terminal follows:

[bill@globallocal ~]$ cd /home/bill/Downloads
[bill@globallocal Downloads]$ gunzip dhcp-4.2.1.tar.gz
[bill@globallocal Downloads]$ tar xvf dhcp-4.2.1.tar
dhcp-4.2.1/
... (my note: crapload of files listed forever here) ...
dhcp-4.2.1/bind/version.tmp
[bill@globallocal Downloads]$ ./configure
bash: ./configure: No such file or directory
[bill@globallocal Downloads]$ cd /home/bill/Downloads/dhcp-4.2.1

I'd sure appreciate any info on how to install DHCP 4.2.1 (assuming that it will cure what ails me...)

Thanks again,

Postby retinalcircus » Mon Mar 21, 2011 9:46 pm

okay... I got around my C++ compiler difficulty by using terminal as root and entering

rpm -qa gcc
yum -y install 'gcc-c++'

then I was able to run "configure", then "make" on the DHCP 4.2.1 install process

I'll tackle the actual install tomorrow.

Please let me know if installing DHCP 4.2.1 will "be bad" for Amahi...

THANKS!

Okay, this is odd. After installing ISC DHCP 4.2.1 and editing the conf file and copying it to the etc directory, I still am running the old (original) verision of DHCP

[bill@globallocal ~]$ su
Password:
[root@globallocal bill]# rpm -q dhcp
dhcp-4.2.0-19.P2.fc14.i686
[root@globallocal bill]#

what the heck?

SOLUTION (work-around, really)

I gave up on Transmission and uTorrent - installed Deluge instead. Works better so far...
