Booting troubles after adding USB hard drives

Postby Quacky » Sun Nov 14, 2010 8:31 pm

Hello all,

I'm just getting started so be warned that my questions are coming from an inexperienced perspective. Also, apologies if this forum subtopic isn't the best fit for this particular question. Here goes.

I got Amahi installed just fine and then attempted to add two 2 TB USB HDs. I followed the mounting procedure outlined at http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Adding_ ... o_your_HDA and both drives appeared in the storage tab as expected. When I reboot, however, my box can't get past the boot screen if the USB drives are on. If they're off, then they don't mount correctly. I tried disabling USB booting in my bios, and also made sure that the non-USB drives (where Amahi is installed) have boot priority. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

What format are you using for the USB drives?

I deleted the Microsoft partitions from my USB 1.5Tb drive and laid down a EXT4 partition.

The HDs are ntfs. I realize ntfs is slower but I need to be able to plug the drives into some windows machines to pull files off of them. I don't think XP machines can read ext3 or ext4 but correct me if I'm wrong. In any event, I don't think the file system is at fault since the drives are getting recognized by Fedora when I plug them in and Amahi adds them to the storage tab if I set them up after booting.

I have the exact same problem. I've been plugging in the hard drive as soon as it gets to the Fedora loading screen and its fine but mine won't go past the post when the drive is plugged in.

Has anyone checked Fedora Forums? This sounds like an OS issue. There may be something there to workaround the problem.
