This morning I installed a brand new Fedora 12 on my HDA server, at that time the nm-applet was working just fine I was able to connect to my WIFI network and so on, after installing Amahi it vanished from my notification area, I wen't to a friend to show him how it works but then I noticed that I couldn't connect to his wifi network. After some googling I'm still in need of a helping hand to get my network manager back.

If you installed Fedora 12 and Amahi, then the network applet will be removed. That is default for Amahi, but the network interface is still running.

You must keep in mind Amahi serves as a desktop/server for your network. It is not designed for you to connect to differnet network. There are certain things specific to your network and will not work with a different wireless network.

If you want a desktop to connect to a different network, recommend you use a different machine.

So if I, lets say change my wireless router to a newer more powerfull one I would need to reinstall the whole server? Why can I just plugin the server in via lan? Both networks have the same default ip range so I do not know why it would not be possible to just integrate it in another network.

No...I may not have explained this quite right. As long as you keep the same connection, the wireless router does not matter.

What you have to be concerned with is the IP and gateway address. For example, if you are currently operating on 192.168.0.1 for a gateway and switch to a router that has 192.168.1.0 then it will not work.

However, there is a script that can be run to change the gateway. It would then change it to match your current router configuration. Anytime you change out routers, IPs can change and all leases need to be redone.

Now, given that please understand that Amahi is only supported for with hard connected networks. That does not mean that you cannot have a wireless network, but that the connection to the HDA must be hard wired. The HDA can serve up DHCP leases to wirless machines no problem providing you followed the install instructions when you built the HDA.

Thx that does indeed clear things up, although it's a shame you can't use it with wireless networks.

Well, there is a workaround to make the hda wireless but it is not supported. No one should want a wireless server. Defeats the purpose....kinda like having a wireless router that does not hard connect to the internet.

As I said, it will function the same as a wireless router and needs to be hard connected just like the router does to work properly.
