Authentication

One of the things I've been looking for, for a long time, is an out the box solution of network authentication for Linux machines. I've seen several solutions but "out the box" has never seemed to describe any of them.

I'm originally from a Windows server background (although I now have no Windows clients or servers at home) and I'm used to "Active Directory" and before "Domain Controllers" and this is what I want for my Linux clients and servers. Does Amahi do that? I see tantalizing hints as I read the website, features etc

No it does not. There are plans for addition of LDAP at some point, but that is a ways off. Recommend you submit this as a feature request at http://bugs.amahi.org. You can log in with your amahi.org user name and password.

Thanks for the reply.

I logged in and got this far http://bugs.amahi.org/issues

But I don't seem to be able to raise bugs or requests.

Hi Jason,

Have a look at Zentyal a total drop in replacement for AD server. My setup is Zentyal as the main box with VM installation of amahi server. All working great (just turn off the DHCP server on the Zentyal box but leave the DNS server turned on). The Zentyal project is amazing just like the Amahi project ;) .

If you decided to go down the Zentyal path once installed they have a desktop client that makes joining nix clients to it sooo easy. Have a look here: http://trac.zentyal.org/wiki/Document/D ... top/Ubuntu

Cheers Good luck :)
