Hey
Sry for my bad english (im german) but i'll try my best to explain my problem...
Ive installed Amahi on Fedora 12 yesterday and have to say that it works really good out of the box.
But since ive started to install some apps i run always in trouble.
In example there is Webmin. The interface shows me the standard User:root and PW:admin after installation.
But they are not correct. So i cant login.
Its a fresh installation without any mods or something like that.
I think i can type the words root and admin correctly. So where is the problem???
Webmin login
Re: Webmin login
Hello,
Sounds like the app has not installed correctly. Please check /var/logs/amahi-app-installer.log and post the output for this app.
We need more details to determine the issue. I suspect you may not have the latest Amahi platform installed which this app requires. Once we have more, troubleshooting should be able to narrow down the problem.

By the way, i found also no way to setup a password for WebVNC.
It would be very cool if i can run my system completely without a monitor.
But im not a really linux freak. So is there an easy tutorial for noobs how to setup WebVNC?!?
I don't know much about all these sudo things.
Thought Amahi is primary for people without big experience in linux!?
Re: Webmin login
Ok, no help from the log. I will have to check it out tonight after work. My next question is can you please post what version of Amahi platform and hdactrl you have installed? Go to settings tab and it should be displayed near the bottom of the screen.
As for WebVNC, please see the wiki at http://wiki.amahi.org for more info. It tells you how to set things up. Most apps that may need additional setup have a note in the Special Instructions. You should see this on the screen right after you install the app.

Re: Webmin login
Did this come from the Amahi dashboard settings tab? Didn't remember it showing kernel version.

Re: Webmin login
if u mean the page that will open when i type //hda then yes
Edit :
Ive installed everything new now. But nothing happens. Login into Webmin isn't possible with default User and password
Regarding WebVNC
Ive tryed the informations from the wiki but im not good in Linux Terminal things.
I thought Amahi dont need any hacking on Terminal. But the Wiki doesnt told me anything about becoming root in terminal and/or edit these strange files in Terminal. And i cant find anything about the default User name and/or setting up the User for WebVNC.
Im very confused.
So i hope to get Amahi working. Else ive to buy WHS. And i really dont like M$. But i think amahi is not the best way to make my first steps on Linux hacking, because i NEED it. This should not be an learning station. When ive to hack all the time on my Amahi Server my WAF will go down
So i hope someone can help me...

Re: Webmin login
Ok, I think I have Webmin fixed. Please uninstall/reinstall the app and it should work. The login password is your HDA root password you chose during the Fedora 12 install.
As for WebVNC, it is a bit more complicated. Sorry you are having difficulty with learning linux. It does take some time to get used to it. I will be glad to try and help you.
Not every app is straight forward. We try to make things simple, however sometimes it is difficult. This is an app which is best suited for someone with some linux experience.
I would be glad to help you with it.

Re: Webmin login
yeaha, it works:D
Thank u!!!!
A first step in the right direction. Now i'll try the second step : WebVNC
I'll try aain the infos in the Wiki. If i run in trouble again i'll come back
After all i think its a good idea to type a small German Howto.
Ive met many German People who are interested in an alternative to WHS but they know nothing about Linux. And thats the main Problem for
Programs like Amahi.
I often read the same sentence in the Wiki and/or App site : "This will be automated in future"
So i think this is the best way to get an better acceptance.

Re: Webmin login
ok, WebVNC works now.
But this part in the wiki :
Edit the file /etc/sysconfig/vncservers (with your favorite text editor)
seems to be not correct. I havent done that because there was no "vncservers" file which i could edit.
I've only insert my passwort in the remote desktop settings and it works now.
Now there are some new tasks on my list :
Remote desktop over internet
Music streaming over internet
VPN in generell
How to remove an hdd without loosing data in HDA (add hdd is clear)
...
...
