USB drive automounts, then disconnects and have to restart

Postby strats » Thu Sep 30, 2010 11:57 am

I'm connecting my external usb drive to the Fedora box and I can see the drive in the 'Places' menu.
However, after a few minutes, the drive is automatically disconnected and it will not reconnect unless I restart.
I have tried unplugging and plugging back in and even cycling power on the drive.
I've searched this forum and google for 'unable to enumerate USB device' and no luck.

Here is the log from Amahi during the issue:

this info:
Sep 29 19:55:06 strats kernel: sd 4:0:0:0: [sde] Sense Key : Hardware Error [current]
Sep 29 19:55:06 strats kernel: sd 4:0:0:0: [sde] Result: hostbyte=DID_ERROR driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE
Sep 29 19:55:06 strats kernel: sd 4:0:0:0: [sde] Unhandled sense code
along with some of the other entries, clearly points at hardware badness.

i had a failing drive and it did that.

some times, you may be able to freeze a drive and get the info from it briefly (search the net for that - has to be one with care).
