I have amahi running nicely on my "desktop pc"... I have a server cabinet at home and am looking at buying a rackmounted server to replace the pc. Is there any limitation to the hardware which amahi can run on?

I'm specifically looking at a "hp proliant dl360 g4p". I don't know enough about these machines to know if it would work....

the spec of the machine is

- Processor = Dual (2x) Intel Xeon ~ both at 3GHz
- Memory = 1GB (2x 512MB)
- Hard Drive = 80GB SATA

No CD drive, so I would have to install from USB....

any advice is much appreciated!!

It should absolutely run on that. Remember, what matters is the OS that needs to be installed, Amahi is just an abstracted layer on top of the OS. Since Fedora is effectively the dev branch of RedHat I wouldn't worry about it. A quick check on the HP website tells us that this server is capable of running linux (RedHat, SUSE, UnitedLinux) so you're good. By the way, the DL360 series is one of the best sold servers out there so support is basically ensured.

I'm running Fedora on a recent (intro date dec. 2009) HP Proliant ML100 G6 and I've only had trouble with the onboard SATA controller which is a crappy fakeraid thing.

perfect - thank you for your answer! I've been reading up on it and I think it should be OK to boot from USB... so I guess I need to download Fedora and get it on to the USB to then install without the CDROM... fun weekend ahead of me!!
