First I must apologize for seeming an idiot but I am having difficulty and have found no help for my problem in the wiki, there is probably something small I am doing wrong and I love Amahi so far so here's the problem:

I have a home network of 3 computers, 2 hardwired XP pcs and 1 Ubuntu wireless laptop. One of the XP machines accesses my Amahi server beautifully using \\hda in windows explorer. Thats it though, none of the other machines can access it. I've tried using the IP address, \\hda, username.yourhda.com nothing works. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

-Sam

make sure they all have the same workgroup. right click on computer, then properties. and computer settings.

try the shares troubleshooting page too.

this is a frustrating one, since there are so many client flavors and differences between them ...

please let us know what you find out. if you can specify what level of XP releases you have, like SP2 and SP3, etc.

also, try \\hda.home.com

(home.com being the domain of your own network)

Thanks for the link to the shares troubleshooter, I learned from it that I need to shut DHCP off on my router  once I did that it started working on the XP machine, Ubuntu was a tougher nut to crack but its up an running now too. Now to figure out how to access via the internet...

Hello,

To access your HDA and apps from the internet, you need to see the wiki page http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Hosting_a_website.

I followed the steps and installed Adito but the rest of the steps on the wiki are for accessing apps over the internet, I just want to access the files. Now that Adito is installed and running shouldn't I be able to go to samb.yourhda.com and access it. Sorry if I seem dumb, just new to this thats all  .

Ah...sorry I misunderstood. If you wanna access your shares inside the network, you can do \\hda for Windows client. If you want to do it outside the network, that is a different piece.

There are many things in the wiki about accessing files via Amahi apps and via your client. Please describe exactly what you want to do and what your client OS is so I can better help you.

I was just wondering if there was a way for me to access my server across the internet for files. For instance if I write up a document on my home network, is there a way I can access that on my computer at work?

Ok, so this is off the original topic really far but... I think I've figured it out but I'm still having trouble. I installed the app eXtplorer and followed the steps at http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Hosting_a_website however it still will not load when I go to http://samb.yourhda.com any ideas.

It is official, I love Amahi and all who work on it and made it and all that nice stuff. Following the instructions I mentioned to share eXtplorer worked! It must have needed to reset or something... but I am currently sitting a hotel 300km from my home network accessing my files! Thank you so much for your help!
