Installing from a USB stick

Postby Leagle » Wed Jun 16, 2010 10:13 pm

Total Linux n00b (except I've used Fedora and Ubuntu USB sticks to create portable OSs for light web browsing and work).

Here's the deal: I've built a new mini-ITX box that has USB ports, but no CD-ROM or DVD drive. I've got a plenty big USB stick (16G), and I used UNetBootIn to put Fedora 12 on it; I've booted the new box using the USB stick, and selected "install to hard drive."

Problem is, during the install to the new box I've never gotten the "add additional software repositories" screen after creating my root password. So I can't add the Amahi repository. I end up with a nice clean Fedora 12 install on the new box, but that's not helpful.

Additional problem: I only have a Windows machine to create the install USB stick (although, in a convoluted way, I suppose I could use the new box's clean Fedora install to create the install USB stick, but I'd have to be walked through the cmd line instructions character-by-character).

Finally, I know I'm supposed to use an Install DVD, not a "live" DVD or USB, but I don't have a DVD drive, and I don't know how I'd do the equivalent on a USB stick.

In short: HALP!

Please.

another method that i used is download the full DVD of fedora, and the Fedora usb ceator avalible from https://fedorahosted.org/releases/l/i/l ... -3.8.7.zip

This software is Windows Based

a guide on using this is avalible from http://www.pendrivelinux.com/install-fe ... g-windows/

You can download the DVD manually or from the fedora usb creator

I have done this on two machines now with no issues
