Feature question: Pooling drives

One very quick question as I am pondering switching to FreeNAS or amaha from WHS:

In WHS, you add drives to a pool that windows manages. This includes duplicating data. (Essentially a software RAIDish feature).

I can probably explain my question better with a scenario:

Say that I have two 500 GB drives, and 700 GB images. When I access these images from a samba share I'd like to have only one 'nas/Pictures' folder to search in. This is not possible with FreeNAS (or so I am told).

Can amaha pool drives like this?
- I can't use RAID as the drives aren't the same speed/size. I also don't want a single file distributed on several disks (as with RAID0), and I also like the duplication of certain folders.
- Alias won't work as it wouldn't know what to do with two files/folders with the same name.
