Hello,

When you performed the initial install, was it with Fedora 14 Full DVD? Also, did you check to ensure the DVD was not corrupted? Many times users have problems because the install media is bad.

I presume you have not turned off the DHCP/DNS on your router yet. That is the last step to be done. The manual install method mentioned in this thread is unsupported and should not be used if at all possible.

We prefer you follow the official install method. When there are issues, it is critical that we troubleshoot them to resolve versus using a work around method. There are many things which could cause issues with install. Connectivity, hardware incompatibility, and bad media are the most common.

If you could provide some detail on what went wrong, that would help us help you.

Hey thanks for the quick respond

I did install the full DVD image, but i didn't burn it onto an DVD i used an USB stick instead. I followed this guide on the fedora homepage here. It doesn't use the liveCD but the DVD, so it should be the same. It just copies some files and then the iso image onto the USB stick. I don't think it should make any difference but i'm not an expert, but maybe there is? The checksum reports back OK.

I'm not sure what kind of information you need, but my computer is an:
CPU: Intel i3-2100T
Motherboard: Intel DH67CF
8 gb ram

I just tried to install Fedora 14 DVD again, now i get an error when i type in yum update.

Code: Select all

Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit Adding en_US to language list File contains no section headers. file: file://///etc/yum.repos.d/amahi.repo, line: 1 '\xe2\x80\x8b[amahi]\n'

Herein lies the problem. We do not support USB install and the method you used is not compatible with Amahi.

If you must use USB, recommend you try the wiki guidance. Although it is not officially supported, I can tell you I tested it several times and it works well.

http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Fedora_14_usb_install

It is important that you follow the install guidance on the web site. There is no mention of USB install and that is the reason why. We have found it not to be reliable in many cases.

I did try the UNetbootin, but my computer wouldn't boot from it, it would only work with the livecd and not dvd. The fedora approach worked. I just thought that the reason usb was not supported was because livecd was not supported. The reason i didn't wanted to take the DVD approach is because, my box only supports an slim ODD(which i only have in my laptop), and i didn't have a blank dvd. Tonight i will get an dvd, so i can install from it.

I'm always willing to learn something new, i just can't quit figure out, why there should be a difference between usb and dvd as both are supported by Fedora, and it install the same version/image. I mean is there an technical reasoning or is it just observed that usb and amahi don't mix. Maybe your expertise could help me out.

Thank you in advance

The USB install as described by the wiki has to be done exactly as it details. You cannot use the default uNetbootin Fedora image otherwise it will not work. The Fedora way of install via USB may not quite match the architecture that Amahi expects.

As for the DVD install failing, there may be some issue with hardware compatibility. I presume you checked the ISO image to ensure it was not corrupt. Not sure what the issue can be based on what you have provided.

Maybe it's a connectivity issue? I have see problems with network card compatibility and Fedora in the past. Just something to think about.

I actually got Amahi to install but i was stuck on 72 %, then i found this http://forums.amahi.org/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2971 saying i needed to create /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0. Finally i could finish installing Amahi, but then i noticed after installing Amahi, that my network symbol in the right corner was gone. I can only conclude that Fedora 14+Amahi+Sandy Bridge don't mix, i will have to wait for 16 to try out Amahi.

That is normal that the network symbol is removed. We do that in the Amahi install. The key is to check to see if you still can connect.

Open terminal and do:

Code: Select all

ping google.com
It should return a result.

The eth0 part should have not been necessary as Amahi only works with eth0. It detects during install unless you have multiple network cards. Anyway, glad you got it to install.

After a reboot i got a warning that no network card was detected, i tried to install it again, following the guide, but it didn't work.

In order to my motherboard to work, i think we need it to run on Fedora 16. I saw that author of this thread got it to work, so i thought that if i tried hard enough, that i could get it to work too. But either i lack the skills to find the workaround or there is no workaround to be found for my motherboard. I will just conclude that this is a hardware issue, and not me lacking the necessary skills

Btw for those who might have the same issue, i got Amahi to install by a combination of rebooting and removing/creating the amahi repo.

So do you have more than one network card? Is it identified as eth0 in Fedora? If have more than one network card, then you may have to disable one or Fedora may pick the wrong one to use and call it something other than eth0.

I am not confident trying Fedora 16 is gonna solve your problem. It may, but sometimes hardware issues continue in newer versions. It could be that Fedora does not support your hardware. I have seen that in the past.

I would think maybe trying a Live CD distro might give you an idea. Try something like Ubuntu, then if it works try Fedora 14 Live Cd to see if you have network connectivity. If you do, open a terminal window and do:

Code: Select all

ifconfig
And note if it says eth0. If is does not, they that could be the issue. Sometimes Fedora detects eth1 instead of eth0.
