true..... just spotted that in the post. you can safely leave the dns running. it doesn't matter how many dns servers you have on your network.
dhcp is another matter so it's best to have only one for a basic config. why not have a look at your router and see if you can get it's dhcp server to lease ip's with the hda as the dns server? you will gain a lot of the functionality of amahi then apart from wol etc.

I suppose we'd have to chalk that up to me being a stupid user.

My intent was only to turn off DHCP, as I want to continue having my router do that; but for some dumb reason I convinced myself i had to turn off the DNS server as well. Not sure I can even begin to recreate the logic on that one.

Though still a n00b, I'll now consider myself ever so slightly less so on that one.
