Have a question.
I cannot seem to install any of the apps onto my Amahi installation. I click, the systems checks for dependencies, downlaods and then hangs on "Preparing to install". Any ideas?
Here is some of the backstory on my install -
Could not install off dvd, so had to use a liveCD install. Went through all the steps and got everything (I think) installed.
Turned off the DHCP on my router. Am using the Amahi install for DHCP and DNS. Went through the network testing wizard and made sure both the server and client was able to resolve domain names. I had to change the DNS lookup on my clients to get that to work correctly.
I cut my teeth on CPM and DOS, though I know hardly anything about linux, I am willing to try.
Thanks for all your help.

Re: Post Installation Questions
Hello,
We don't recommend doing a live cd install as there are certain dependencies that will not get installed. You can follow the guidance in the wiki http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Self-install-livecd, but I don't think it is up-to-date.
Give it a shot and please report back on your progress.

Check what appears in your /var/log/amahi-app-installer.log file, when you try to install an application.I cannot seem to install any of the apps onto my Amahi installation. I click, the systems checks for dependencies, downlaods and then hangs on "Preparing to install". Any ideas?
Maybe an error appears that could tell us what is happening precisely.

Re: Post Installation Questions
Here is the last two install attempts. By my reading, it appears to be a rails error.
I have seen some posts about rails errors, but have not paid much attention to them. Will look again. Any other thoughts are appreciated.
Also, if I could boot from the dvd, I would do so,
Thanks,
Tony

Re: Post Installation Questions
Well if all you have is a CD drive, you can still install the full version by CD just as if it was the DVD. It will just take 5 discs instead of one
Go to here: http://ftp.ussg.iu.edu/linux/fedora/lin ... /i386/iso/ Download and burn the files ending in disc1, disc2, etc. Pop in disc 1 to start with, and go through the regular install instructions on the Amahi home page. The only difference is that it will prompt you to put in the next disc every few minutes.
I ran across the same problem (no DVD drive) with my custom-built PC from 2001. It's ancient, but it still runs great as a file / print server. Plus I'm too cheap to upgrade for now.
Good luck!

Re: Post Installation Questions
Got Amahi up and running!! Thanks for everyone's help.
Not sure what the exact problem was. I downloaded the CD's, then I got a bright idea. Went to the library, checked out the "Fedora 12 Bible", which has an install DVD. My computer choked at the same place. The DVD player seems to work for everything else. So I guess it was some sort of weird hardware problem.
Did the CD install (which took a very, very, very long time) and everything has gone smoothly. Even got jinzora installed. And will probably have a lot more questions in the future.
Thanks again.
