Error: Incorrect username or password - SOLVED

Postby robertoisrad » Wed Dec 16, 2009 9:12 pm

I recieve the message "Error: Incorrect username or password" whenever I try to log in. I'm completly new to Amahi and I've reinstalled several times following the instructions everytime. Everything goes great and I can access my hda page and am presented with a login window. I've tried my fedora account username and password and my amahi account username and password and I can't get past Error: Incorrect username or password! Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm running a clean fresh install of fedora 12 with the amahi repos.

On a side note is there a way to auto login and make it so fedora doesn't lock me out everytime I'm away from my computer? Seems like that'd be a hassle once I remove my monitor and keyboard...

Thanks again!

This was an issue with capitalization (Robert was the username, you were typing robert).

This is not too uncommon. We should do some smart folding of usernames to lower case ...

About the screen locking, that should be in the desktop at Preferences -> Screensaver.

You may want to boot to runlevel 3 to avoid starting X if you want to squeeze a bit more out of your ram!

Hi

I have the same Problem!
But don't know how to solve this.
I think i have used every possible combination and capitalization.
So what account should be used.
I think it must be the Amahi Nickname(in my case LegoTechniker) and my Amahi Password.
or what??
But that dosen't work.

Thanks
LegoTechniker

OK I have the old version
don't know why

Updated but still can't login

updated everything (hope this isnt a problem)
still can not login
of course i also tested legotechniker

now it finally works
fedora login is used
but fedora shows non casesensitiv but amahi uses casesensitiv
frustrating and i could swear i tested this combination several times before

Yes, Fedora introduced a bug on this issue. Linux has been case sensitive forever.

Glad your figured it out.

Beat my head against the wall with this one for far longer than I'd care to admit to.

"Just enter your username and password."

Linux social and communication skills. Ugh!

There's more than one username. There's more than one password.

Imagine that.

Turns out that the damn thing wanted my UPPERCASE username, which I created when I did the install on the hard drive I'm using on this headless HP EX487, which, of course, required me installing Amati 7.1 to a hard disk on a different machine, like with a monitor and everything, which, during that installation process, took *upper case* USERNAME, and then informed me that I would henceforth be *lower case* username on this hard disk. It also demanded a password, which I obediently provided, let the installation complete, did the reboot, and then I was given a nice prompt asking me for, you guessed it, my username and my password. To get into that, I had to give it my *lower case* username, and the password that I had just created during the hard disk installation on the "headed" machine.

And it all worked.

Just fine.

No problems.

I could log in, I could log out, I could log back in as root, I could do whatever I wanted to, using the nice white letters against the black screen.

Whoopty do!

Put the nice hard disk in to the nice EX487, wire the ethernet cable to the machine I'm talking to you from, and go to http://hda/ and I am presented with the following:

"Amahi initialization"

At which point it all went to hell, and no body, and no thing, seemed to be able to help me.

Linux social and communication skills. Ugh!

I'm SURE it's all in there SOMEwhere, but really guys, why so obtuse about things? Why so arcane? Is it a game, or is it a tool? Are we here to win, or are we here to work?

Nevermind.

Guesswork is what finally won the day.

Nothing was ever found, and please note that word "FOUND," people, that was of any use at all.

In the end, what worked was the UPPERCASE username that I created during the original "headed" hard disk install, and a password from..... hold your breath now..... the Amahi page where I originally downloaded the disk image from, created my Amahi account on, and received my "Amahi install code" from.

INSANE!

Complete batshit insanity, compounded by an astounding closed-mouth approach to "helping" new people by giving them the old RTFM treatment in spades, no doubt accompanied by smirks and unheard laughter in the far distance somewhere.

The download of Amahi demanded, and got, a username and password.

The installation of Amahi LINUX on the hard disk demanded, and got, a username and password, and then went on to permit SUCCESSFUL login using the terminal, using the LOWER CASE username, and the password that was chosen during the initial hard disk install.

The "Amahi initialization" ONLY worked with, and you really gotta love this, the UPPER CASE username from the original hard disk installation, along with the password from the Amahi web page it all got downloaded from.

Does any of this make ANY sense?

Of course not.

Not one little bit of sense at all.

And it's not particularly guessable, but I'm kind of OCD about things, and I WILL keep at it, long after more sane individuals have wisely determined that it's all a Big Funny Game with oodles and oodles of laughter and hi-jinx for everyone except for the poor schlub that's attempting to use this stuff as a TOOL, to get a job done.

Maybe somebody out there will stumble across this in their efforts to Google to the bottom of the matter, when they too are presented with the incomprehensible array of completely unnecessary rubbish and difficulty that I had to endure to gain entry into the hallowed halls of yet another Linux Labyrinth of Doom.

Maybe.

So, dear mods, or whoever the hell might be in charge of this, go slow, go easy, when it comes to deleting my rant. The rant is here for a purpose. The rant is there to help the uninitiated, to help the unwary.

But of course, I'm sure all the previous rants were all defaced and deleted too, which is why there was nothing there for me to find when it became my turn to endure this.

Go ahead.

Wipe it all.

It's great fun, isn't it?

The sarcastically obnoxious negative tone in the message spoils it for me.

We want to improve things for users, believe it or not. In a few places (maybe not the right ones?) we do emphasize that capitalization matters in Linux (for files, usernames, passwords, etc.). Maybe we need to emphasize it more. We will keep it in mind.

Can I ask you how you found Amahi?

We're getting a small wave of unusually harsh users in the last couple of weeks and we'd like to know where you guys are coming from.

In the mean time, thanks for taking the time to write with your feedback. We feel the pain.
