Help Please.

What's the word for a Pre-Newbie?
I've installed Amahi 9 on a Server box on my network.
I know it works because I turned off the DHCP on my router, and all the Mobiles in the house still have internet access and all have new IP addresses. Also my Notebook (Lenovo W520) seems to access the internet faster, perhaps because of the Amahi DNS server.
However. I have 1000s of pictures I want to store on the server to process, and I haven't got a clue how to move them onto my new system.
When I search for relevant howtos I can't find anything simple enough.
Is there a pre- beginners howto, which tells me the basics?
